EcoFarm
EcoFarm is an Italian company located in Sicily, dedicated to supporting local agricultural producers with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. Founded in 1994 by visionary agricultural entrepreneurs, EcoFarm has since grown into a leader in the production, processing, and marketing of high-quality fruit and vegetable products supplied by both founding members and external growers.
Positioned in a rich agricultural area, EcoFarm transforms diverse biomass sources, including fruit crops and olive waste, into renewable energy, while actively reducing CO₂ emissions through its 200 kW photovoltaic system and weather stations. As one of the nine Italian fruit and vegetable companies to sign the International Quality Chain, EcoFarm has built a reputation for innovation, quality, and traceability, implementing a system that allows consumers to track each stage of production and distribution.
Role in the Project
In the TEAPOTS project, EcoFarm utilizes agricultural waste to produce electricity, cooling, and biochar —a natural fertilizer that helps cut down on chemical use and supports eco-friendly farming. EcoFarm aims to find the best ways for farms to:
Achieve energy independence with renewable sources and reduce reliance on traditional electricity
Make good use of pruning waste, which is often challenging for farmers to dispose of.
Through the use of biochar and compost to reduce the consumption of chemical fertilizers
