UptoEarth and University of Padua at MetroAgriFor 2024
We are thrilled to share highlights from the successful participation of our TEAPOTS partners, UptoEarth and the University of Padua, particularly the Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry, at the IEEE MetroAgriFor 2024 international workshop, held in Padua, Italy from October 29-31, 2024.
As part of Session 5.3 - Optimizing the Integration of Agriculture 4.0 in Winery Production, they presented an insightful paper co-written with Francesco Marinello and Andrea Pezzuolo titled Remote Sensing and GIS-based Assessment of Vineyard Pruning Residues for Bioenergy and Biochar Production.
This research highlights a sustainable approach to managing vineyard pruning residues by transforming them into bioenergy and biochar through pyrolysis processes. The study, conducted at two TEAPOTS pilot sites in Italy and Greece, used advanced Remote Sensing and GIS technologies to assess biomass availability.
Key findings:
Vineyard pruning residues alone cannot meet biochar demands at the pilot sites.
Fast pyrolysis proved effective for energy production.
The TEAPOTS pyrolysis process emerged as a highly promising solution, advancing sustainable agricultural practices in the wine industry.
The presentation emphasized the potential of circular economy principles in winery production, showcasing how technology can optimize resource utilization and contribute to renewable energy solutions.
We are proud to see our partners pushing the boundaries of innovation towards sustainable agriculture!
